About Me

"Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning." - Robert John Meehan

¡Hola a todos! My name is Elsa Pagán, but since I just got married my new name is Elsa Mena. I am a Bilingual First Grade teacher in New Jersey. I have been teaching for the past 5 years, but it will be my third year teaching in the United States of America. I've worked with primary students in bilingual and dual language programs. This year, 2016-2017, I have the opportunity of being selected as the “Teacher of the Year” from my school.

I love teaching Bilingual. I have the opportunity to teach my students in their native language and help them learn a second one. I teach Spanish Language Arts, Science, Math, Phonics and Social Studies in Spanish.

I loved being teacher. I love and enjoy creating and sharing fun activities and engaging lessons!!!! I always try to add a hands-on "craftivity" in all my lessons. That's why I am constantly creating  games and a lot of activities in both languages: English and Spanish.

I empower my students’ learning process by following the “Learning Pyramid” teaching model that encourages students to do and demonstrate knowledge acquisition to others. The new creative dialogue is when students teach and learn from themselves. I found this a very helpful approach.

I have presented so far 6 parents workshops for my school. I recently presented a parent workshop titled "Sliding through Summer in the Education". Presenting workshops has given me the opportunity to meet the parents and even teachers.

I hope you can find ideas and good resources on this blog! Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you come visit again!
