Human Body: Skeleton

You can use this activity for October or if you're studying the human body.
In my case my Kindergartners, where studying the human body so I decided to do a lot of cooperative learning and hands-on. They also have science notebooks, so I always create a brief and friendly information for their notebooks. Even the parents were learning too.😃

You can find the info here El cuerpo Humano

I found this cute video that explains almost everything

Now if you're studying the skeleton. You will love these videos.

After this we start discussing about the skeleton and we identify the parts using interactive games. Just click on it.

Don't forget to even bring real things. Here is an idea from Kids Activities Blog. Just click to access and download it.

I use the last picture. I enlarge each part . I gave each piece to a students. They had to cut it and then try to assemble by group and glue it. Last label the parts.
Here they're cutting the parts. Remember along with teaching basics, often we need to teach students how to cut.

Love this picture!! Working together.

It was really amazing listen to their conversations. They were analyzing, debating, and evaluating.

The leader of the group.

Almost done!!!

Still trying to figure it out how to assemble the human skeleton.

Yes!! They got it!!

Time to glue. Remember to teach them how to use glue. Here are some ideas of teaching kids how to use glue

They know how to use glue correctly.  ðŸ˜‰

They were singing the Skeleton Dance.

Labeling the parts using color paper.

Don't forget the piece of paper with lines so they write their names.

Comparing Numbers

Hey guys!!!!!  One of the topic on math is comparing numbers. For some reason it's a topic that students understand but they need a little reinforcement. They got confuse on the comparison signs. As I was searching online I found some great ideas.

Even though I have first graders, they do LOVE videos, songs and stories. Here are some videos I use to teach comparing numbers.

I also found nice activities and games about the alligator. Yes, I love to use interactive and online games for mi kiddos.

Another way to explain math concepts to the students is using stories. Believe me they ENJOY it!!! I create a short story that explain the comparison symbols. It include exercises. You can use on your smartboard. (You have to click on print and then teacher's notebook. It will open on notebook -smartboard-). There are 2 versions: Spanish and English.

You can find them here
If you like to do hands on like me well I found Alex the alligator Craft. You just need green paper construction and white for his teeth and a circle for the eye. I took it the idea from A Sunny Day in First Grade.

But if you want to use Popsicle sticks then you might want to do this one.  You can take the idea from Mrs. Qureshi on her blog called Second Grade Scoop.

I found  incredible math centers. One of them is from Erica, she is a first grade teacher with a Master's in Literacy.  Just click on the following picture and it will take you to her site. It's free you just have to subscribe.
